God’s Goodness to Those Who Trust Him
The way we “taste and see that the Lord is good” is by faith and obedience. And once we get a taste, we will want much more. As the second half of this verse says: “Blessed is the man who takes refuge [or has faith] in him!”
The Lord is good to those who trust Him. And we express trust by surrender. Obedience requires trust, because God’s ways often at least appear to be a threat to our well-being.
God loves everyone. But only those who have faith in that love, and act accordingly experience His goodness.
His love for us will not do us one bit of good unless we actively believe it. And we do that by being obedient in the face of what appears to be a threat to our well-being.
God Loves Me but Is That Enough?
If we believe He loves us, we’ll be able to yield to Him even though doing so exposes us to a threat, because we know He will work it out for us (Romans 8: 28). And deliver us from the threat we’ve exposed ourselves to.
Not to beat a dead horse, but the mere fact that God loves me will not be enough to enable me to experience His goodness unless I believe it. And if I believe it, I will act accordingly.
If I really believe He loves me, I will not be afraid to expose myself to the risks inherent in God’s ways. That’s because I know He’ll take care of me and be good to me in the end.
