How to Be Blessed with Every Good Thing

“No good thing does he withhold from those who walk uprightly” Psalm 84: 11b.
This is one of the many precious promises out of the book of Psalms. These are some of the most comforting and encouraging scriptures to turn to in times of trouble. To read the whole passage for context, click here.
How to Be Blessed
According to this verse, if we withhold, or keep things from ourselves, the Lord will not withhold or keep things from us. But if we refuse to withhold or keep things from ourselves, then He is obligated to withhold or keep things from us.
Specifically, if we keep ourselves from our sin (or guilt), which is how we become blameless according to Psalm 18: 23, the Lord will not keep good things, or blessings from us. But if we refuse to keep ourselves from our sin, the Lord is obligated to keep good things, or blessings from us.
If we judge ourselves, we will not be judged (1 Corinthians 11:31). We must experience death. Either death to sin, which is death to our needs and to ourselves, or to good things and blessings. This is also death to needs and self if you think about it.
God’s Way or the Highway
But if we do it God’s way by dying to sin, He will allow our needs to be met in due time. He will bless us with every good thing and perfect gift (James 1: 17).
While we’re waiting, we have hope because of His promises. And He also gives us things in the meantime to comfort and compensate and console us. But if we refuse to die to sin, we will never be blessed.
And if we are endeavoring to meet our own needs in our own feeble, inadequate way with our own sin, God will not meet it by blessing us with every good thing.
Either we meet our own needs, or God meets them. But as long as we’re trying to take care of ourselves, He won’t meet them with every good thing.
Death is Required to be Blessed
We must have things withheld from us and we must die in one way or another. According to Psalm 18: 23, the way we become blameless is by keeping ourselves from our sin. And if we’re blameless, no good thing will be withheld from us.
Sin is really just an attempt to meet our own needs apart from God. So, what this is really saying then, is that God will meet our needs with every good thing if we refrain from meeting our own needs by sinning.
We trade our sin for every good thing. We give up sin and get every good thing in return. That seems like a pretty good deal. But it requires faith to do this.
